    Google Summer of Code is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development. GSoC Contributors work with an open source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.

  3. HACKING FOR A CONNECTED FUTURE: TOGETHER APART NIGERIA HACKATHON

    Inspired by Ericsson promise to keep Africa in motion. Ericsson’s Nigeria Together Apart Hackathon is hacking for a connected future and solving global challenges. The theme-based hackathon aims to identify innovative and commercially viable solutions showcasing the power of connectivity and 5G in Nigeria.

  6. WORK ON OPEN SOURCE AND OPEN SCIENCE: OUTREACHY PAID INTERNSHIPS

    Outreachy provides internships in open source and open science. Outreachy provides internships to people subject to systemic bias and impacted by underrepresentation in the technical industry where they are living.

  7. SEASON OF DOCS: OPEN SPURCE COLLABORATION WITH TECHNICAL WRITERS

    Season of Docs provides support for open source projects to improve their documentation and gives professional technical writers an opportunity to gain experience in open source. Together we raise awareness of open source, of docs, and of technical writing.

  8. HYPERLEDGER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

    The Hyperledger mentorship program is aimed at creating a structured hands-on learning opportunity for new developers who may otherwise lack the opportunity to gain exposure to Hyperledger open source development and entry to the technical community. It also provides a more defined path for Hyperledger to connect with the next generation of student developers to inject more talent into its development community. Each mentee will apply and be matched with a mentor or mentors who are active developers in the Hyperledger community.

  9. LFX MENTORSHIP – THE LINUX FOUNDATION

    LFX Mentorship makes it easy to sponsor and help train the next generation of open source developers by serving key needs of the community. Invest in building a stronger and more diverse community of qualified developers and engineers. More than 190 mentees have been accepted since the programs started in 2019, participating in 96 mentorship programs.

  10. LEARN BY DOING: MLH FELLOWSHIP – LEARN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING THROUGH OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS

A fully remote, 12-week internship where participants earn a stipend and learn to collaborate on real open source projects with peers and engineers from top companies.

11. The X.Org Endless Vacation of Code (EVoC)

That program provides approximately US$5000 to students to spend their summer developing code for an open source project. Each student proposes a project and is matched with an organization mentor who guides and evaluates the work. GSoC was great for X.Org; we saw more than a dozen students through it, and some of these students went on to be extremely active contributors to X.Org.
